With a CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final awaiting Mexico, they might be devoid of Giovani Dos Santos once again.
Mexico star Giovani Dos Santos is no certainty to return for his side’s CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final against Panama.
An adductor injury suffered in Mexico’s draw with Trinidad and Tobago saw Dos Santos sidelined for the controversial 1-0 quarter-final win more than Costa Rica on Sunday.
The 26-year-old warmed up ahead of returning for the bench, and he may not be prepared for Wednesday’s clash in Atlanta.
?°We will have to help keep operating on him, see how he feels,?± Mexico coach Miguel Herrera mentioned.
?°If he?ˉs 100 per cent, then there?ˉs no doubt he?ˉll go in. If he doesn?ˉt, then he will not.?±
Herrera said Dos Santos was told to warm-up to determine how he felt, but the LA Galaxy recruit “did not really feel confident”.
Mexico’s win was secured within the 124th minute against Costa Rica as Andres Guardado converted a controversial penalty.
But, after once more watching Mexico fail to take their chances, Herrera said it had been a worry heading into the Gold Cup.
“That has been our principal concern considering that the starting on the tournament, to become powerful up front,” he stated.
“Unfortunately we have not been able to be as helpful as we would would like to.”
