Gary Neville’s appointment as Valencia head coach was for the reason that he was the correct man for the job, says friend and club owner Peter Lim.
Valencia owner Peter Lim insists Gary Neville’s appointment at the Mestalla was on merit rather than in relation to their friendship.
Neville was handed his initial head-coach function by the Singaporean businessman following Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked in November, the former Manchester United full-back appointed till the end from the season.
The England coach’s appointment came as anything of a surprise offered his lack of knowledge inside a top rated job, with some suggesting his relationship with Lim ¨C who is a co-owner of Salford City with Neville ¨C helped his probabilities.
Lim has rejected these reports, although, and says the 40-year-old may be the proper man to restore pride at the Liga club.
“I picked Gary not because he’s a great friend; Gary is really a great coach, who occurred to be a friend,” Lim told the club’s official website.
“I believe that must be really clear to every person. I look at him, he has got the possible in him, I knew him for any while and his football information is tremendous.
“He is major pundit inside the UK. I chose him due to his expertise of football and almost everything that may be about football.
“So as interim manager for the rest on the season, I believe that it suits me and I consider it can suit the club quite effectively to have him see by means of the period, and we’ll take it from there. That’s how I look at it.”
He added: “I am very confident about him, the only shortfall is perhaps the language. But I think he can overcome it, since he is a very determined individual.
“More essential is his experience, not merely as a manager but his playing days, I feel he can hold this team together. We have a very young team.
“I know loads of folks say ‘oh no, he has in no way been a coach’, but I do think that he has got the ability to turn into a good coach.”
