Juan Mata admits Manchester United threat becoming caught by Liverpool in the race for the major 4 if they can not end their poor run of type.
United lost their third consecutive Premier League game on Saturday when they have been defeated 1-0 by West Brom at Old Trafford.
That result followed defeats to Chelsea and Everton, with Louis van Gaal’s males failing to score a single goal in all 3 matches.
Mata admits United will have to rediscover their killer touch in front of target if they are to stop fifth-placed Liverpool from bridging the four-point gap that separates them from their old rivals.
“The weekend wasn’t fantastic for numerous motives,” the United playmaker wrote in his weekly weblog, One Hour Behind.
“Obviously the 0-1 at Old Trafford is really a tough score for us and we are forced to win as soon as possible: our rivals ahead keep adding points, as well as the teams behind are finding closer.
“It’s the tendency with the final couple of weeks: we’ve got extra ball possession than our opponent and develop possibilities but we are not in a position to take them.
“We must focus on getting powerful because we have not scored inside the final few games and we cannot afford it any longer. On Saturday we tried until the end but their goalkeeper was brilliant.”
Mata watched his old teammates at Chelsea lift the Premier League title on Sunday and, whilst he’s pleased for his old club, he produced it clear he hopes to become lifting the trophy with United subsequent season.
The Spaniard wrote: “Chelsea are officially the Premier League champions. I had congratulated my former team-mates already and I do it once again: you have got been probably the most constant team this season. I hope the congratulations are to us the following year ;-).”
